An often hilarious take on an older couple who flee the boredom of suburbia for the wilds of the Adirondacks. As they travel northward they encounter increasingly strange and provocative events and people. Once in the Adirondacks, their lives become influenced by an Athabaskan shaman who helps induce an expansion of consciousness that takes in both illusory elements and a carefully focused need to share other worlds, other views and new dimensions.

This is the second book I've read by Henry Childs. Both were very imaginative, and were able to sucessfully convey the underlying theme of making the world a better place. Pyrite Years began with a very funny scenario (terrifying, actually if you have grown children) which prompts our 50's+ heros to embark on an escape which brings them greater understanding, humanity and self-realization; not to mention a clutch of quirky new friends and a profoundly closer relationsip with the Athabascans. I highly recommend it. In a world which is seemingly losing its moral compass at a alarming rate, The Pyrite years is both enlightening and satisfying.Product details

The Pyrite Years edition by Henry Clay Childs Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
My initial reaction to the first few pages was "I can't believe these people are letting this happen to them", but of course it turns into a good thing. A very entertaining story well told, The Pyrite Years is also an interesting perspective on our times. Highly recommended.
